- A buck is typically installed by garage framers or by the overhead door installer to allow mounting of the garage door track. Taking the 1-1/2" board thickness into account, the most common overhead door frame jamb depths are 5-1/2" (2x4 wall) and 7-1/2" (2X6 wall).
